GSL Minerals-Application to expand evaporation ponds-Potential Major Impacts on GSL Recreation

Greetings GSL Recreation Community, Attached are several documents associated with a public comment period that ended today on the expansion of the Great Salt Lake Minerals evaporation ponds. This was a resonse drafted by Friends of The Great Salt Lake (FOGSL) in regards to the potential impacts on the lake as a whole. Where it could have a substantial impact on lake levels if allowed it will have significant impacts on the all recreation that occurs out of the GSL Marina. I encourage you to view this information. If you would like more information, or if you would like to find out how to get involved with this, I would encourage you to visit the FOGSL website at fogsl.org. If you wish to get involved in the public comment, there is a deadline of this coming Thursday. You may contact Lynn de Freitas at ldefreitas(a)earthlink.net for more information.

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users We are updating www.gslmarina.com and adding some features. The newest feature is specific to the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club. We now have a page that will list current events or announcements. This page is under development but you can access all the RACE RESULTS for this year. Just go to www.gslmarina.com go to the Potpouri Page on the main menu and then click on Great Salt Lake Yacht Club - Race Results You may then select any race you want to view. We will try to keep this updated and have results listed the day after the race. If any other club would like to include events or information about their clubs please let me know and I will include it. If you have any other suggestions as to what you would like to see at www.gslmarina.com please let me know. There is updated Marina News on the News tab. I will be phasing out the gslharbormaster(a)hughes.net address by fall. Please begin using the harbormaster(a)gslmarina.com to contact the harbormaster. This is a cost cutting factor for me. The restrooms are almost done. Only a bit of touch-up work. But, THE RESTROOMS AND SHOWERS ARE NOW OPEN. Feel free to use them again. Thank you for your patience. The gates at the top of 'I' dock and 'J' dock have now been relocated to the top of the ramp and the angle of the gate has changed so they no longer slam shut on you. This was a safety feature. BUT we ask that you are diligent in closing and locking the gates behind you. People on these docks pay for and expect security. We need your help to keep the docks secure. "K" dock, plese help out too! You are the worst violators. Big rain storm at the marina this afternoon. We received all of July's expected moisture in just an hour this afternoon. Add this to June's 360% and we are having one hellacious monsoonal weather pattern. The lake seems to still be coming up, if ever so slightly. This is unheard of. We never see the lake stable or even coming up in July. By now we have usually been dropping for three to six weeks. This is a great sign and eliminates several evaporation days from the evaporation season. It means our chance of "Net Gain" year are strong. Tufa Reef

Due to a Search & Rescue event at Utah Lake that involves GSL Marina employees, we have not been able to update a proper forecast on www.gslmarina.com today. Charts showlight to moderate north winds at 5 to 15mph with moderate chop today and sunny skies. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to have a complete forecast updated sometime this afternoon. The hull's fine deep forefoot ensures good upwind tracking and ability in a seaway, while the full quarter sections add sailing length when heeled or at speed. These features, coupled with improvement in basic keel design, result in a fast, comfortable yacht. The deck arrangement includes improved comforts for crew or family with more comfortable seating, open coamings and recessed cleats in a basic T-shaped cockpit. The mainsheet traveller, always a toe stubber, has been incorporated in the cabin top to further enhance the capacious cockpit and permit easy movement through the companionway. Traveller controls are simplified, resulting in easier handling of the C&C 36. A full depth anchor well is incorporated in the foredeck facilitating the job of anchoring and relieves the aft lockers of this stowage problem as well. The tripod rig and double spreaders provide solid fixity for the spar while at the same time providing the feature of accurate spar adjustment. The 36 incorporates a full length trough along the rail with a drain to provide overboard discharge of rain water preventing traditional streaking of the hull and requiring less maintenance. Below, the C&C 36 has broadened the cabin sole area in the galley and main cabin, allowing more comfortable sleeping and seating arrangements. The quarter berth and navigator's area include lined, dry lockers, spacious chart table and more drawer space for stowage. Once again our internet has crashed at the marina. We do seem to have email access on a limited basis though. Weather Forecast: Storm Warning. Afternoon thunderstorms with the potential of gusty winds and moderate to heavy seas associated with those storms. Otherwise mild seas to light chop with light north winds and mostly cloudy in the morning. We hope to permanently have our internet issues fixed by Thursday (this, of course, is with the benevolent cooperation of Rocky Mountain PowerOUTAGE).
