GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. Apparently they have re-opened the freeway. But we have lost all internet and phone communications from the fire. Access to Marina Closed

A large fire just south of the marina is causing concern and UHP is planning on closing I-80 and SR201. I will inform you of further details when we have them. High Wind Warning

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. A High Wind Warning has been issued for Great Salt Lake and The Great Salt Lake Marina area for tomorrow. The wind will be from the south in the morning and will continue to build all day until the front comes through mid evening. We could see gusts in the marina from 60 to 90mph (depending on the angle of the approaching wind). Spring begins the windy season and this spring appears to be holding true to that. We are seeing an increase of broken dock lines. Have you checked your dock lines lately? Have you checked your sail covers? Is all your property at the marina securely tied down? Are your hatches closed and secured? If you have any doubt you may want to come out tonight and check your boat one more time. It appears many boats that were planning on putting in on the March 12th crane day are not quite ready. This means we have only three boats ready for that date. If we postpone the crane until April it appears we will have a greater attendance and a cheaper crane bill. I am more than willing to still do the March 12th date if people want to get a jump on the season. But if all are willing to hold off a month I will move the date into April. "Friends" is working to fight industrial encroachment on the Great Salt Lake in the form of evaporation ponds that if allowed could render the lake unnavigable. Please pay particular attention to item # 2 - the mailer. The Executive Committee would like to know by February 23rd which organizations wish to have their names listed on the mailer. You'll recall that a very rough draft of the mailer was attached to the January 11th meeting notes. That draft will go through extensive revisions and with any luck - will be available in a final draft form for our next meeting scheduled for March 8th. Whether or not you are listed will not preclude your ability to have copies of the mailer for awareness raising and fundraising, but please confirm with me asap so we can be sure to acknowledge everyone. The following list reflects - in some way, shape or form -partners/coalition members who are working on this campaign. If I have overlooked anyone, please let me know. Especially for a long term campaign like this one with its twists and turns and variable timelines, it's not uncharacteristic for a coalition to sort of "breathe". Unless you are working as an individual, most of us have to seek Board approval to sign on to comments or protests. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But the bottom line - as I see it - is to do our "collective" best by demonstrating our sense of commitment and involvement in the issue. For obvious reasons, a coalition that is comprised of a diversity of interests brings a particular strength to the table and in this case, this diversity speaks volumes about the level of public concern that exists with this proposed project. So as you work with your Board of Directors in helping them understand why this issue is so important to the future of Great Salt Lake and why your continuing involvement is so meaningful, I just want you to know how grateful I am to have the opportunity to work with you on this campaign - in whatever capacity you are able. Water Watch / Weather Forecast

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users: There is a new Current Water Watch Report at www.gslmarina.com January was an interesting month for the Great Salt Lake. Although Direct Precipitation was dismal, the snowpack actually increased 10% This was the second month in a row we saw a percentage gain in the snowpack. There is hope for a near normal season for the Great Salt Lake. Tomorrow will be the last day weather forecasts on www.gslmarina.com UNTIL FEBRUARY 15th. Then we will return to normal daily forecasting. The marina staff will try to stay up with the weather flags but there is no guarantee on this. Use the Great Salt Lake waters at your own risk. As of tomorrow evening I will not be answering my phone on a regular basis. Nor will I be reviewing my emails on a regular basis until February 15th. Although I will be checking my voice mail and emails periodically during that time. If you need something from the marina staff, please call the office at 801-250-1898. You may need to leave a message. Or you can still visit the marina and look for Bob, Eric or Pahoo. If it is an emergency, call 911 and dispatch will contact the ranger on duty. I will be available until tomorrow afternoon. Then I will be unavailable until a week from Sunday. My boat and fifth wheel have been barbed wired, land mined, electrified and booby trapped.
