Pumpkin Patch Social This Saturday

This Saturday is the annual Pumpkin Patch Social and trick-or-treating for the kids. This event is open to the whole community and is hosted by Great Salt Lake Yacht Club. The weather forecast looks good. At 5pm the Yacht Club is providing a Sloppy Joe main course and is encouraging side dishes or deserts be brought (not mandatory). They do request a $5.00 charge for non-members though. 6pm is the Costume Parade and Contest -Scariest, Funniest, Most Creative. Afterwards is Trick-or-Treating for the kids. Kids will come by facilities and down boat docks to trick-or-treat at individual boats. This is always a great event. Hope to see you there. Dave

Winterizing the Park / Slip Rates

GSL Slip Renters and Sculling Club We are getting into some very cold weather. This is a Reminder that we will be turning the water to the docks off very soon. This includes the faucet near dry storage that the scullers use. We will also be winterizing the pump-a-head. So, if you need to pump your tanks or wash your boats off, this would be a great weekend to do that. It is also a great time to CHECK YOUR DOCKLINES. We are into windy season now where older dock lines break. Jordanelle had strong winds yesterday and some boats broke loose from the dock. And another reminder that NOVEMBER starts winter rates for slip rentals. Thanks Dave

New Marina Gate Code

Ok. The new marina gate code for after-hours access has been sent out to all the emails of current slip renters that are not in arrears with their rent. If you did not get the gate code we either have a bad email for you, you are not current on your rent, or it is also possible that we skipped you by accident. The old codes will stop working now. Mark Your Calendar - Upcoming Marina Events

The season may be winding down. But there is still much to do at the marina this Fall. Here are just a few of the upcoming events. Sunday, October 13 - Full Moon Walk. Join a park ranger for an evening stroll across the expanse of Silver Sands Beach. The walk will begin at sunset, and we will watch as the moon rises and casts its reflection over the Great Salt Lake. During the walk, you will hear strange stories of the lake from times past, some true, others merely being tall tales. Meet at the observation point just past the visitor center at 7:05 pm. The Moon is scheduled to rise at 7:15 pm so please be prompt, the gates will be closing at 7:20 pm. The walk will consist of approximately 1/2 mile along relatively flat terrain. Flashlights are recommended, though we will keep them off for much of the time Saturday, October 26 - Pumpkin Patch Social. Great Salt Lake Yacht Club is hosting their annual Pumpkin Patch Social and pot-luck. Costume contest and Trick - or -Treating for the kids. The event is open to all regardless of membership. Visit www.gslyc.org<http://www.gslyc.org> for more information. Saturday, November 23 - Harbor Master Turkey Social. This event has now run for 26 years and has become one of the biggest events at the marina. Enjoy Deep Fried Turkey provided by the Harbor Master. If you haven't had deep fried turkey before you are missing a real treat. Side dishes are welcome. We serve promptly at 4pm. Don't be late because the turkey goes fast. This event is open to the whole marina community but please RSVP to harbormaster(a)gslmarina.com<mailto:harbormaster@gslmarina.com> so I know how many turkeys to provide. Saturday, December 21st. The longest running social at the Great Salt Lake State Marina is the annual Bottom-of-the-Pit Chili social. This event was started back in the 1970's as a social on the dock to celebrate the shortest day of the year and the coming of longer days and a new sailing season. And this year the event is actually being held on the Winter Solstice. Bring your favorite chili recipe to share with others. A contest will be held for the best tasting, most original recipe, and spiciest. Social starts at 11am and will run till 3pm. If you don't want to provide chili other side dishes are always welcome. This event is open to the whole marina community. Hope to see you at these great events

Gate Code - Security at Marina

The master gate code to the marina gate at Saltair has changed. I will be emailing all the slip renters, who have a current contract and are not in arrears, the new gate code. You should see this email come through over the next few days. The old codes will not work as of the 5th of October. The code had to be changed due to several security breaches that came to light where codes were being given out to individuals that should not have had after-hours access to the park without being escorted by the boat owner. Please remember, if you have guests, to bring them out with you or have them call you when they arrive at the gate. Then meet them at the gate and let them in. Also remember that your gate key opens the swing gate. This can be handy if there is a power outage. And PLEASE remember to keep dock gates closed and locked AT ALL TIMESS! Do not prop them open. You may not care if the dock gate is closed or locked but trust me, your fellow dock mates do care. They let me know about open gates quite often. Thank you Dave
