Turkey Fest - RSVP time

Well my annual Turkey Fest is only 18 days away now. This is a long-standing tradition now to deep fry turkeys the Saturday before Thanksgiving. If you have never had deep fried turkey you are missing out. Saturday, November 18th at the Great Salt Lake Marina will be the annual Dave's Deep Fried Turkey Social. I will provide the turkeys but I need to know how many people will be coming so I have enough to feed everyone. Side dishes are not required but are certainly welcome. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. This is a great social to see everyone again and to have some great food! Turkey will be served PROMPTLY at 4pm. Lake Level - Good News

I have been watching the lake level very closely for the last month. It is showing signs that it bottomed out about a month ago and it looks as if the lake level is rising now. This is about three weeks earlier than normal. And NOAA is still predicting a wetter-than-normal fall and winter for us. To the whole Great Salt Lake Marina Community. There are some great events coming up very soon. Please mark them down on your calendar. October 28th is the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club's annual Pumpkin Patch Social. This is a great event for the kids and adults and is open to all regardless of club affiliation or not. 5pm is the dinner at the yacht club. The GSLYC is asking for a modest $5.00 fee for non-members to pay for the sloppy joe dinner. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. BYOB 6pm is the Costume Parade and contest - Scariest, Funniest, Most Creative. 6:45pm is trick or treating for the kids. The kids will go down to the docks and trick or treat from the boats. Please decorate your boats. It makes it much more fun for the kids. November 18th is my annual Dave's Turkey Fest Social. I have been running this event for over 25 years now. This event is open to the whole marina community. I will be deep-frying turkeys. If you have never had deep-fried turkey you are definitely missing out! This event started in the early 1990's and included a handful of people and one deep fried turkey. It has now grown to over 100 people and 8 deep-fried turkeys! The event is free for everyone. I will provide the turkeys. But I do ask that you bring a side dish if possible. We will serve PROMPTLY at 4pm. PLEASE RSVP for this event so I know how may turkeys to deep fry. December 16th is the Bottom-of-the-Pit Party. This is the longest running tradition at the Great Salt Lake. It is traditionally a chili cooking party to celebrate the Bottom Of The Pit (shortest day of the year) and to celebrate the coming of a new sailing season. This social has been going on since the 1970's when Clint Baty, my predecessor as Harbor Master, cooked up a batch of chili on the dock on a cold winter day. Clint died this year. So I would like to make this year's event a celebration of Clint's life and contribution to the Great Salt Lake marina community. This party starts at 11am and goes to 3pm. Bring your favorite chili recipe. If you don't have a favorite chili dish bring out a side dish to share. There will be prizes for best tasting, most original, and spiciest recipe. This is a marina community wide event and is hosted by Great Salt Lake State Marina. These are three great events for the whole marina community. Come out and see old friends, meet new friends, and enjoy a day at America's inland sea! So mark your calendar! Crane Day

It appears we will be bringing in a crane the second week of November to remove some abandoned boats from the marina. I have also had a couple people requesting a crane this fall. If you are interested in craning in or craning out of the lake let me know ASAP so we can bring in the right sized crane. Navigation Lights

The sailing season started out great with very good compliance on navigation lights. But lately compliance has become a real problem. The rangers have informed me that they will be conducting regular patrols down this way checking on navigation lights compliance. Remember that navigation lights are required to be on from sunset to sunrise. Failure to have them on may well result in a citation. If you do not have navigation lights do not sail past sunset.
