Trailers and Boats left at GSL

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. We have some trailers that have been left here for a while. One is a Catalina 22 trailer, A couple others are for fixed keel boats. And there is trailer for a small daysailor. We do not have contracts for storing these trailers at the marina. Also there are two sailboats that have been left here since the last Crane Day. Our understanding was that these boats were to be removed a week ago. We are cleaning up the marina in preparation for fall and winter. We just don't have space here to have boats and trailers left without contracts. And unfortunately we are just out of space. We need to have these trailers and boats removed from the marina ASAP. Upcoming Events at Great Salt Lake Marina

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. Yes, the sailing season is already at an end for many of us. But that does not mean life ends at the marina. There is plenty still happening out here this fall. Saturday, September 20th, 5:30pm Great Salt Lake Yacht Club is hosting their annual Wine and Cheese Party. All are welcome regardless of membership. This is always a great social with awesome cheese and beverage samplers. Saturday, October 25th, in the afternoon. The Pumpkin Patch Halloween Social. This is usually one of the better parties of the year. There will be a social, dinner and trick or treating for the kids. For those of you that don't have boats in the water we will also do tailgate trick or treating. Saturday, November 22nd is Dave's Turkey Social. This has turned into one of the largest, if not the largest event of the year at Great Salt Lake Marina. And the food is incredible! I will, once again, be frying up turkeys. If you haven't had deep fried turkeys you are missing something! Definitely put the 21st Dave's Turkey Social on your calendar. We serve turkey promptly at 4pm. Saturday, December 20th at 11am is the date of the longest running social at Great Salt Lake. It is the Bottom-of-the-Pit Chili Cook-off. This social started on the dock one cold December Saturday back in the seventies and continues to this day. And there is always Radio Controlled Sailbaot Racing every Sunday at 5pm on L dock. We usually have one and sometimes two extra boats if you want to try it out. Dave

LOW WATER

GSL Slip Renters. The water is very low at the marina now. If you have a fixed keel boat you will likely not be able to use the launch ramp anymore. It is too shallow for fixed keels. Also, negative storm surge can affect your ability to get in or out of the marina now. Any vessel with a draft of four feet or more should decide carefully whether to go out anymore until sometime in December. Even a small storm surge may trap you outside the marina. Now for a bit of good news. We have a very wet storm heading our way. With it will come cooler temperatures. This helps mitigate how much the lake drops. It already looks as if we will not drop as much as originally forecasted. And it is predicted to be a wetter and cooler fall than normal. For those interested in the Radio Controlled Sailing Program, I thought I would let you know that the Nirvana RC Sailboats are, once again, available for purchase. SAILRC.com has them. If you would like to try RC racing out we do it every Sunday evening at 5pm from L dock. We usually have one, and sometimes two extra boats that can be used. It is great fun.
