Happy New Year GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users.
Well, we ended the year right where we started it with regards to lake
level. After a very dismal winter last year, we had an incredible wet
spring, summer and now winter. And we had a net-neutral year for water
level. If I had told you that would be the case last summer, you would have
thought I was high as a kite.
And the lake continues to rise rapidly.
We had a lot of "Lake Effect" snow yesterday. The Great Salt Lake Marina
was directly downstream of the wind all day yesterday and we just kept
getting snowed on. So there is a fair amount of snow out here. Most of the
snow is dry snow though. So it shouldn't be weighing your boats down too
much.
It is also bitterly cold out here too. Everything is frozen (including a
good portion of the water in the marina). Ice flows are developing on the
lake from the Goggins and are likely to build through the week. That may
make it tough to get onto the lake. It may also put the navigation buoys as
risk and dislodge them.
On another good note, we are FINALLY seeing the sun again. Here, at the
Great Salt Lake Marina, we have only seen the sun three days since the
beginning of November.
If you come out to the marina be very careful. Even though we have plowed
the parking lot and have shoveled the walks, everything is frozen out here.
It rained just before getting very cold. So the parking lot, walks,
gangways, and docks are all very slick and frozen.
