GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users Mark Your Calendars! After a year off we are going to, once again, revive the Great Salt Lake Field Trip Series. The Field Trip Series allows you to experience other areas of the lake rather than just the Great Salt Lake Marina and the water just outside the marina. Our first field trip will take us back to Antelope Island. This is a great opportunity to check out their visitor center, view the abundant wildlife (including bison, eagles, deer, antelope and big horn sheep), tour the island and then finish at the Ranch House where we will have a short lecture about ranching on the island and a self guided tour of this historic ranch house. We will also have a lunch picnic at the ranch house. And I recommend, after your tour of the Island, you head a few miles north to the Hill AFB museum. It is ranked as the best in the nation. Polar Bear Cup Forecast

Polar Bear Cup Participants. Forecast for Saturdays annual race is looking up. Current charts show very light wind but we will at least see some sun during the race. And temperatures should be tolerable. And it looks like NO FOG! The Harbormaster is still planning on doing some kind of feast just after the race either at Trestledock or at the marina patio (YC room). Probably a simple pot-luck deal. GSL Sailors The following request was made by a friend of Ryan Sabin. I'm looking for any good reference photos of sailboats for an upcoming painting. The view would need to be from the behind the boat while it is rigged and with wind in the sails. I need a variety of sky/weather/lighting conditions so I can get a feel for the way the light would reflect in the water etc. If anyone ha...s any pictures of sailboats they are willing to email me, it would be incredibly helpful. Polar Bear Cup

GSL Slip Renters The Great Salt Lake Yacht Club is hosting the upcoming Polar Bear Cup regatta this coming January 30th. Are there any boats planning on racing? I'm going to risk getting stuck in the mouth of the marina and venture out with "Nine & Change" Trestledock (the harbormasters "house") is considering hosting some kind of afternoon feast and social after the racing (Maybe Clam Chowder or something similar). Let me know if you are interested. After a month of fog at the marina, it is time to enjoy the sunshine and an actual view of the lake. Dave

K Dock Electrical and other stuff

GSL Slip Renters (especially those on 'K' dock). We have been researching the electrical problem on 'K' dock. After two long days we have concluded that 'K' dock is not the cause of the problem. When we unplug all the boats on the dock, 'K' dock registers .2 volts of electricity in the water. This is the same for B, E, and I docks. What this tells us is that 'K' dock is not bleeding electricity into the water on its own. When we plug in the majority of the boats, the voltage registered in the water changes little. But, there are nine boats, that when plugged in, are throwing electricity into the water. Five of these boats are throwing in significant amounts of electricity (up to 70 volts cumulatively). This is due to faulty wiring in the boats. And as soon as 'K' dock is soaked or significantly wet in a spot, 'K' dock becomes a conductor. This is why some have experienced a shock when the dock is wet. We have unplugged several boats on 'K' dock. The boats throwing electricity into the water will not be allowed to plug back in until they repair their electrical situation. Why is this problem showing up on 'K' dock? Because of another thing we found - unattended heaters! K dock is the most active dock. It is the dock with the most boats. It is the dock with the most boats plugged in. It is the dock with a number of aged boats. And it is the dock with the most number of attended and unattended heaters. The more electricity your boat is drawing the more electricity you throw into the water if there is an electrical problem with your boat. Unattended heaters are NOT acceptable. Another problem with boats bleeding electricity in the water is that it could significantly increase electrolysis on your boat and your neighbors boats. On the good news. The lake IS rising. We have come up 4/10ths of a foot since the end of October. Gate codes have been changed. If you have not sent your contract renewal in, please do so ASAP. They are late now.

Power Problem on 'K' dock

'K' dock has developed an electrical problem. For safety reasons, the power has been turned off to the dock. We are working on fixing this problem ASAP. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
