Storm Damage Report

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users: The Storm Damage Report for the Christmas Day storm is complete now. It can be accessed at the following link: http://www.gslmarina.com/StormDamageReport/tabid/85/Default.aspx Almost every dock had at least one boat that sustained at least a little damage. Secured and Unsecured storage had some too. With ONE exception, almost all the damage was very light. NOTE: Just for future reference, if the power is out at the marina, we must close the restrooms. This is because the macerator is out with the power. Use of the restrooms will cause the toilets, drains and sinks to back up creating a horrible mess. POWER IS BACK ON AT THE MARINA NOW. Power was out to parts of the marina for 26 hours. You may want to check circuits in your boat to make sure bilges and other necessary equipment are working properly. GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users Power still out at marina. Likely to be out all day. Was able to update Today's Weather Forecast and the Current Water Watch report. These can be accessed at www.gslmarina.com Working on the Storm Damage Report. That should be available early afternoon. BTW: Max wind gust during this storm was 78mph. The previous max wind gust since January 1st 2008 was 74mph. We have a new record for the 2008 year (low by previous year records of 102, 104, 100, and the grand daddy of 214mph plus). Power Outage again

Due to Rocky Mountain Power's inability to provide the Great Salt Lake Marna with reliable power this year we are again without power and are into hour 23. (this is our 12th outage since November 1st) Because of this we will not be able to provide storm damage reports, weather forecast and Current Water Watch reports at this time. GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users For those that may be missing my usual weather reports at the marina. . . . there really isn't much of note to report. Storm came through here with relatively mild winds in GSL Marina terms. This means that gusts never got above 55mph (this is what I consider relatively mild in GSL terms). The wind direction came in at just the right angle all morning to minize the damaging gusts. Rather than south winds coming around the Oquirrh Mountains from both valleys, we had SW winds out of Tooele Valley. This means that the winds remained in the 20 to 30mph range the whole time with the occasional gust in the low 50's. This is much preferable to the 0 to 70 from the southeast, southwest and then very abruptly down the mountain directly from the south. The front has passed. The air is cold with temps at 24 and wind chill at 13. Winds are NW just over 10mph. And it is snowing moderately. There is no Storm Damage to report. The extremely cold air, associated with this storm, is just crossing the Idaho, Oregon, Nevada border and has a bullseye on the Great Salt Lake. This very cold air, when it crosses the Great Salt Lake, should trigger substantial Lake Effect Snow. Don't expect much Lake Effect snow at the marina since the wind direction is from the wrong direction but expect heavy Lake Effect from Woods Cross along the Wasatch Front East Bench to Sandy and into West Valley. Snow amounts at the Great Salt Lake will probably top out at 3 to 5 inches. The forecast for the Great Salt Lake area for the Bottom of the Pit party is actually fairly good. Current charts show partly cloudy conditions with the occasional clip of a Lake Effect squall. Temperatures in the high teens to low twenties. Don't let Wasatch Front forecast, usually presented by the major networks, scare you away from a great winter party at the marina. Besides, you may want to come and shovel your boats off.
