I sent the below message after resubscribing but I didn't see it (despite using the option to see my own posts) so I'm including it below. I have to say that I'm glad the list is back. It was a quiet one but fun and informative when people did use it. I too found "Whispering Nickel Idols" in the bookstore when I was doing my usual casual glance to see how many Glen Cook books they had. Very fun. So far, I am enjoying the Garrett novel -- it's typical fare for that series though I am liking it a bit better than the last couple so far. Can't wait for my birthday in a couple weeks to get "The Tyranny of the Night." The massive hints I dropped better be enough. ;-) Steve ------------- Hi all, I think I was accidentally unsubscribed from this list, or else it's been really dead. I was shocked to come across a new Glen Cook book in the bookstore last week, "Whispering Nickel Idols," a new Garrett novel. And then I was even more shocked today when a friend emailed me about a new Glen Cook book, "The Tyranny of the Night," an entirely new fantasy series. Whoohoo! :-) Anyway, I wondered how I could have missed this on the Glen Cook mailing list which is when I discovered that I no longer seemed to be subscribed. So, what's the news? Anybody still here? Steve -- Steve Chew - schew@interzone.com - http://www.interzone.com "Don't take life too seriously, you won't get out alive."

I enjoyed it far more than the last one. Far fewer loose ends, no taggle of old threads getting in the way of the story. That said, since the current one didn't really build on that one it's lowered my opinion of Angry Lead Skies. I was hoping that Angry Lead Skies' redeming feature would be setting the scene for the next one.

Here's something I discovered today - instore ordering can be more expensive than getting things from the regular website. I live in a city where the main stores are Coles - and they no longer do special orders. They now have a computer set up in the store where you can order books from their parent company's website. If you order there and have the book set to the store the shipping is free, so that's what I normally do. Before going there I checked their normal website and saw the book was marked down by about a third, but when I went to order the store's computer didn't show the discount. I asked and was told that the main site competed with all the other online customers, but walkins were seen as 'secure customers' who couldn't compare the price with other online stores. Since the discount is more than the shipping I'm ordering from home. Richard

I found "Whispering Nickel Idols" quite enjoyable - more so than I found the previous two Garrett novels. The alien/elfs seemed a bit too goofy. I thought the series was straying from it's "hard-boiled fantasy detective" core. Although, after dealing with gods - where can one go but to the aliens? ;-) M Michele Riccio mr1@rcosta.com
