Copy of Deadly Quicksilver Lies for Sale
As we gear up for next weeks release of Gilded Latten Bones, I'm taking this opportunity to point out that I have a copy of Deadly Quicksilver Lies for sale on ebay, at the very cheap starting bid of $10. With that, you also get a copy of Faded Steel Heat and Whispering nickel Idols. Meanwhile, has anyone encountered Gilded Latten Bones yet? I remember that Cruel Zinc Melodies started turning up a week or more before its actual release date. Borders stores tend to put books on the shelves the weekend before their Tuesday release date, so I'll be checking around here in New Jersey this weekend...

Borders didn't have it out yesterday. -- Michael Llaneza maserati@speakeasy.net
I preordered it from Amazon.com and the scheduled delivery date is November 4th, however, with Amazon.com, I believe they probably will ship the book as soon as they get it in stock. This has happened before with other books too. I wasn't expecting where it took it either. On reflection, it was inevitable based on the characters of the people involved. Mom isn't getting this one until I've had a chance to re-read it, a LOT happens. On Nov 5, 2010, at 6:54 PM, John Middleton wrote:

John, I've really enjoyed your Amazon reviews of the Garrett books. I encourage everyone on this list to read those reviews, as they're written in a cheerful, positive manner. I haven't seen any mention of Deadly Quicksilver Lies being in print (I still have the copy available that I mentioned when this thread started), or Red Iron Nights being reprinted. However...Garrett appears to be getting the omnibus treatment! Sure, the SFBC released collections over the years, but this is different, the core publisher, Penguin/Roc is shown on Amazon as having Introducing Garrett come out on August 2, 2011! This is a good ting, as people who have the Black Company omnibuses, but are intimidated by the large number of separate Something-Metal-Something Garrett books may be tempted to try what is obviously the starting point. The book has 656 pages, and a $16 cover price. So it is probably the first four Garrett volumes. My guess is they will produce three collections, to include all the books up through Cruel Zinc Melodies, while letting Gilded Latten Bones be stand-alone for a while. But I have no real idea, I guess we'll find out. I also see that Nightshade is releasing A Matter of Time in a reissue on April 1 next year. No final Dread Empire omnibus in sight yet ;-( I'm reading Gilded Latten Bones right now (well, currently, you know what I mean, I'm typing right now). Too early for me to have an opinion, I'm just glad to back in Tunfaire. Then, soon enough, it will be Surrender to the Will of the Night time! I'm just surprised I still haven't seen any Publisher's Weekly-type reviews of it yet... On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 7:54 PM, John Middleton <jmiddle1@bigpond.net.au>wrote:

You missed that Darkwar is out Dec. 14, and it's an omnibus. I'm really happy with the omnibus editions, I can only give you most of the Garrett reading order off the top of my head, and I'm a rabid fan. By the title of the first, it'll be easy to tell where to start and what's next. Do read Darkwar if you hadn't. It's Glen's best take on the notional villain of the piece. Marika really does end up bringing a lot of darkness and death. The fact that it's only those who practically beg for it and are standing in the way of saving their species gets overlooked by the rest of her world. -- Veteran, Bermuda Triangle Expeditionary Force, 1993-1951
No, I'm aware that Darkwar is coming out soon, but I thought that was pretty well known by most of us. This Garrett omnibus is something brand new to all of us, I think, which is why I mentioned it. But thanks for the reminder, I agree, it will be good to have Darkwar also in the omnibus format! On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:15 PM, Michael Llaneza <maserati@speakeasy.net>wrote:

The view from two thirds of the way through: This book is a fiendishly complex tangle of emotional issues. The action, and there is some, is entirely secondary. When I say "complicated", I'm comparing it to the political tangle in the Instrumentalities of the Night series. It's on that level, it's a very character-driven book. -- Veteran, Bermuda Triangle Expeditionary Force, 1993-1951 _______________________________________________ glencook-fans mailing list glencook-fans@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/glencook-fans
Finished mine. It's good. It goes in directions I wasn't expecting. It's all terribly complicated, but in a good way. On Nov 1, 2010, at 9:12 AM, grim213@aol.com wrote:

-- Michael Llaneza maserati@speakeasy.net
Now just 3 weeks until Surrender to the Will of the Night: "Piper Hecht’s secrets make him dangerous, but his skill and his reputation put him in danger—from his enemies, who fear what he might do, or who want revenge for what he has already done; and from his friends, who want to use his military gifts for their own purposes. His sister Heris and his living ancestor Cloven Februaren, the Ninth Unknown, have made Hecht part of their fight against the return of the dark god Kharoulke the Windwalker. At the same time, the half-mad Empress Katrin wants him to lead the armies of the Grail Empire eastward on a crusade against his old coreligionists the Praman. Meanwhile, all around them, the world is changing. The winters are growing longer and harder every year, and the seas are getting shallower. The far north and the high mountain ranges are going under the ice, and fast. The Wells of Power, everywhere, keep getting weaker. And the old evils, the Instrumentalities from the Time Before Time, have begun to ooze back into the world. As ever, the genius of Glen Cook’s storytelling lies in his common touch: in soldiers who are like real soldiers, in men and women who love and laugh and sweat, with real hopes and real fears, united only in their determination to face the oncoming night. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Llaneza <maserati@speakeasy.net> To: Glen Cook: Science Fiction/Fantasy Author <glencook-fans@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Mon, Nov 1, 2010 12:31 pm Subject: Re: [Glencook-fans] Copy of Deadly Quicksilver Lies for Sale Finished mine.
