Books take on their own character. Faded Steel Heat was dark, but the surrounding volumes had the weirdest humor of any. And without trying to offer any spoiler, I think Garrett will be finding some romance soon. On Aug 31, 2013 1:18 PM, <c01demp@aol.com> wrote:
As most everyone who follows this group/community knows, I was bummed out by the story/plot.
Jim put it nicely: where is the humour?
Where also are the supportive friends of Garrett. not just Morley and Belinda;
Penny is barely present and Singe has too limited a part. And at least Mike
and Hellebore could be expected to step up also--and as friends rather than
bed-fellows.
One very small plus is that a tenative thread for a sequel to this dark and dismal
tale might carefully examine Constance Algarda's future role, prominence,
and influence on The Hill.
I am hoping that the bleak character of this book does not presage some sort
of major health crisis on the part of Mr. Cook--at least certainly not until he has
the series back out of the black hole it is presently in with WBA'' presently, the expression/assessment of a character in WBA '...screwed the pooch...' seems to have applicability!
Best Regards,

Jim, we're all bummed about Strafa...had to read the book 3 times before I could just enjoy reading it. Went to a re reading of the Dark Empire to cool off. Keep the faith. Saul

Im bummed about Strafa. Haven't finished WBA yet, but my biggest bitch is: where is all the humor??? In all the earlier books I couldn't go three pages with out at least a chuckle! It was 50-60 pages before I laughed at anything in this one. And I REALLY hope there is another book! This series is way too fun and endearing to go out so darkly.

I found *WICKED BRONZE AMBITIONS* reminded more of one of those Shaklespearean Historical plays where as lot of innocent beings wind up dead; in fairness, the body count is less than in Hamlet. That still makes for less than enjoyable reading.
I'llattempt to omit spoilers: those who have read this tragic story will know of an early and a much later death-like event both of which occur in one instance to a character around whom there is a positive valence and in the other to one whose sole flaw is that of [deleted to avoid spoiler].
I certainly hope there is sequel; *WICKED BRONZE AMBITIONS* *IS* very well written; Glen Cook is incapable of bad writing. But I am really hoping for a sequel to WBA to take the bad taste out of my mouth!

I can't believe we've heard the last of the Dead Man. He's got to go out with a memorable line (if not more).
