Garrett is a normal PI in a magical world.
Dresden is a magical PI in a normal world.
The genres are similar but nit the same. But the Dresden Files are very good. Five a couple of books to get its legs.
There's a real tone shift as of Changes. That might be a goid stopping point forva lot of people.
The short story collections are good, but contain Spoilers for the novels.

At some point Jim Butcher's Dresden Files were recommended if one liked Garrett (who doesn't?) It took me a few years but I'm halfway through the first Dresden book, and while pretty good, I'd take Garrett/Cook over Dresden/Butcher every time. Am I missing something?
