It is great to hear he is coming out with a new Garrett novel! Honestly I've never heard of most of his other series, you guys are very informative!
A piece of advice? Track down the other books. You'll probably like them. All of them share the gritty humour of the Garrett novels, but most are a bit darker. Um, make that most are much darker. You know how tall men are called "Shorty" and bald men "Curly"? Well the first of the Black Company novels introduces someone like that whose name is Mercy. But in amongst the darkness is mixed the sharp wit that makes Cook's books worth reading. That, and the characters. In most of the series even some of the two-dimensional characters get slowly expanded out to become real people (I'm thinking "Raven" here - and how he changes from his introduction and evolves until we learn most of his truths in The Silver Spike). Garrett is good, but you'll thank yourself if you start at the start of one of his other series and start reading. Or not - I find Cook seems to be a "Love him" or not writer. Richard
