That's a great pic - love the incongruity!
Of course, it's also a reminder that all of us humans are essentially, terminally ill. And however disconcerting that may be at any given moment, it is just as it should be.
I've long thought that becoming old and frail is truly a gift... perhaps God's way of saying to some of us... "Can You Hear Me Now?" And to others perhaps, "Yes! I will see you soon!"
So even as it breaks my heart to see Mom & Dad falling to pieces, it also makes me smile most days too. Yeah I know that's kind of weird, but aside form the aches and pain of the moment there's not a lot of sorrow in my heart when I visit with them.
As one of Unc's sons said something at his funeral, to this effect... "Dad said he wasn't ready to go yet... said he wasn't done teaching us."
“Thank you, John Quincy Adams is well, sir, quite well, I thank you. But the house in which he lives at present is becoming dilapidated. It is tottering upon the foundations. Time and the seasons have nearly destroyed it. Its roof is pretty well worn out, its walls are shattered, and it trembles with every wind. The old tenement is becoming almost uninhabitable, and I think John Quincy Adams will have to move out of it soon; but he himself is quite well, sir, quite well.”

Blaine, thank you!!! When I call dad doesn't want to talk much and mom isn't very forthright "I'm fine" isn't very informative. Sounds like famous last words, engraving on a tombstone or heading for an obituary! So, yes, information is good.
Reminds me of this card section Joe snapped a picture of...

Well, every day is an exaggeration, but I do try to stop by often.
I know the distance can be frustrating for you and Mary, but I hope information will be helpful.
