EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR INVESTORS
PROSPECTING FOR GOLD & DIAMONDS
IN BRAZIL
Opportunity It is only rarely that the chance
arises to explore for several minerals in the
same area, especially when those minerals are
gold and diamonds.
Who. Braz Gold Ltda. (BGL), a
subsidiary of
Globetech Ventures Corp (GTVCF-OTCBB),
has
recently started an exploration program in
such a province in Amapá State in northern
Brazil.
What. Jointly we have secured
claims
over prospective greenstone rocks, which are
known to hold gold mineralization elsewhere
within the same mineralized belt. Indeed
there are records of actual mining of gold,
iron, manganese, chromite, cassiterite and
tantalite in the vicinity within this Vila
Nova greenstone belt (GB) as well as known
occurrences of diamonds immediately to the
south of our claims.
Where. The claims are situated
in the
south-central part of Amapá State some 100km
northwest of the capital Macapá and are easily
reached by good roads. All facilities are
available within the claims themselves since
a railroad passes through the properties,
electric power pylons cross them, and ample
water is freely available from the river
systems. The GTVCF/BGL
holdings comprise 5
claim blocks, which consolidate into a
coherent block of ground roughly 44km
east-west and between 9 and 15km north-south
of about 50,000 hectares. Within this area
prospective greenstone rocks are known to
occur and gold has been panned in several
tributaries of the Cupixi River, which cuts
through the claim blocks.
Gold Potential
It is significant, from an exploration
standpoint, that the Vila Nova GB is but
part of a stable block of Precambrian rocks,
the Guianan Shield, which in the adjacent
countries of Venezuela, Guyana and French
Guiana hosts world-class gold deposits with
the Omai gold deposit in Guyana for example,
having a reserve of at least 130 tonnes
(4.2 million ozs) of gold. Indeed the Guianan
Shield has historically produced large amounts
of gold with up to 150 tonnes (4.8 million ozs)
having been mined in the 19th century alone.
In the Vila Nova GB itself, in similar rocks
to those found on the BGL claims, the Amapari
gold deposit (Wheaton River Minerals) has
reserves of more than 1 million troy ozs of
gold, whilst immediately to the south is the
large open-pit vein-gold workings of Mineração
do Vila Nova; a quartz-vein shear-hosted deposit
with visible gold.
Diamond Potential
In addition to the prospectivity for gold, there
is a potential for discovering other minerals.
In particular the occurrence of diamonds in
gold-bearing, alluvial sediments in the Santa
Maria district, just south of the optioned area,
gives cause for optimism that a primary source
for the diamonds may yet be found in the
district. In this regard there are records of
diamonds having been found in ultrabasic igneous
rocks in the vicinity, and some 140 carats of
diamonds, together with gold, were recovered
from the alluvial deposits during WWII. Thus
far the larger diamond exploration companies
have not conducted systematic heavy mineral
campaigns in Amapá so the possibilities are
good that new mineralization can be discovered.
Mineral Potential
Apart from the obvious gold and diamond potential
there is also the possibility of finding other
types of mineralization in the region. Specifically,
there is evidence of base-metal geochemical
anomalies as well as chemically precipitated
sediments such as banded-ironstones (BIF) within
the Vila Nova greenstone rock sequence which may
be signatures of stratiform base-metal occurrences;
these present further exploration opportunities.
In this regard the discovery of Zn-Cu gossans by
the GTVCF/BGL team
bodes well that further
discoveries will be made by systematic exploration.
A microscopic study of these gossans, named Cabana
da India and Flor do Povo respectively, showed that
they had boxworks after chalcopyrite, with remnants
of sulphide particles within the iron oxide matrix.
Geochemistry confirmed anomalous amounts of zinc
together with copper in the gossans. These require
immediate follow-up during the next phase of
exploration.
Mineralization
Geologic appraisal of the BGL claims has only just
begun with a preliminary site visit having been
undertaken in January 2004. The objective of that
study was to assess the historical record concerning
the area and determine whether prospective rocks
cropped out on the claims. The discovery of
greenstones in road cuts and river traverses
established that prospective rocks do occur and
finding gossans within these, confirmed their
prospectivity. The following factors concerning
mineralization are pertinent to the GTVCF/BGL
claims.
• Rock sequences prospective for gold are found
within the BGL claims
• Gold can be panned from various parts of the Cupixi
drainage, which flows through the claims. [In fact some
44kg of gold is reported to have been panned from the
Cupixi drainages by garimpeiro operations in the past
• Two gossans have been discovered within
greenstone rock sequences on the properties.
• There are active gold and chromite mines
in the vicinity of the claims
• There are old mines for manganese, tin
and tantalum either in or near to the claims.
• There is historical evidence of diamonds
being found in alluvial sediments in the area, which
have not been tracked-back to a primary source.
These findings demonstrate the overall prospectivity
of the BGL claims for a variety of minerals, which
leads one to conclude that the claims have a good
potential for discovering significant new
mineralization. It is recommended that further
exploration is warranted, particularly so for gold
and diamonds.
It is proposed that on-going exploration would be
staged and success dependent. It would involve a
first stage detailed reconnaissance study
incorporating geological mapping, geochemical
sampling and geophysical studies to determine
the more prospective parts of the claims. In
conjunction with this, the newly discovered
gossans would act as the locus for more detailed
soil-grid geochemical grid testing on the ground.
