FOTD 13-07-12 (On the Bright Side [7])
FOTD -- July 13, 2012 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's parent fractal is once again an almost-Mandelbrot set. This set came about when I went 22 levels up the complex logarithmic hyperladder and calculated the expression Z^(2.00001)+C. But this almost-Mset set is rotated 180 degrees so that its East Valley falls on the negative X-axis, where the discontinuities usually lie. The plan was to check the East-Valley type discontinuities there, but I never found any. What I found was an everyday East Valley scene. To make something of nothing, I worked on the colors a bit and came up with today's image, which I named "On the Bright Side" because of the unusually bright color values of the image. The only fractal 'trick' was rendering the scene with the 'outside' set to 'summ'. A better rendering and coloring might have been possible, but I saw too little potential to make a real effort. Considering the image's calculation time of over 12 minutes, the rating of a 7 might be a bit liberal. (The older I grow, the more conservative I become.) Those who prefer their fractals brilliant might consider the result worth the effort however. To view the image without the need to spend 12 minutes calculating it, check the official FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> The image may be viewed in the majesty of high-definition at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> All the FOTD images are online at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> Thickening clouds, increasing humidity, and a temperature of 91F 33C made today less than ideal here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats do not demand perfection however, and they passed a good part of the day curled in their cat cubes. Meanwhile, the humans had a passable day, with little of note to report. The next FOTD will be posted in the prescribed time. But most likely, there will be no FOTD's for July 15, 16 and 17. Until whenever, take care, and perhaps reality is nothing more than interacting field patterns.
