Concerned FOTD fractal fans: There will be no FOTD for a few more days. I am fully involved in getting the new computer up and running at full efficiency here at Fractal Central. Hopefully, when I get everything set up, all the work will move more efficiently. My best guess for the time the next FOTD will appear is around this coming Thursday, Sept. 9, but there is no promise. Meanwhile, I will be checking the list several times every day, and saying a few words if I have anything of importance to add. Jim M.
What the new Digital Demon got? (the spex that is) FYI Below : BTW if you use a fire wall and Win XP install Your FireWall Software first Before you add in SP2. SP2 won't let you install FW's like Zonealarm or Black Ice. It's behaved pretty good with me "so far" but I'm still not ready to exhale just yet. Just in case you need this info. Yes, SP2 will let you install and use other firewalls like ZoneAlarm. Just disable your present firewall, install SP2, then disable the SP2 firewall (which is on by default), and re-enable your preferred firewall. I'm avoiding the entire thing around here .. my last Windows box disappears at the end of the year. David gnome@hawaii.rr.com jimmckenzie wrote:

I have the excellent (and free http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html) Kerio firewall running along with the SP2 firewall, having them both active works just fine. I must say I think the SP2 enhancements are excellent.... breathed out a couple of weeks ago ;-) -----Original Message----- From: fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of David Jones Sent: 04 September 2004 21:29 To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion Subject: Re: [Fractint] Brief FOTD hiatus Yes, SP2 will let you install and use other firewalls like ZoneAlarm. Hmmm, if you're running a real, proven firewall like Kerio ... why would you want to run the unproven XP firewall? SP2 didn't install an XP firewall - XP already had one, just a very poor one and disabled by default. SP2 did some upgrades to it, but I seriously doubt it upgraded it to the level of Kerio ... I am not suggesting that the XP firewall is the same beast as Kerio. I happen to like the way that the SP2 enhancements do stuff like stop a pop-up, tell you and then give you the option to view it without reloading the page. AS I said I am running both in conjunction. -----Original Message----- From: fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of David Jones Sent: 05 September 2004 18:50 To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion Subject: Re: [Fractint] Brief FOTD hiatus Hmmm, if you're running a real, proven firewall like Kerio ... why would you want to run the unproven XP firewall?
