FOTD -- November 14, 2012 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The formula behind today's image takes 0.8 part of Z^(-5.8) and subtracts 0.8 part of Z(-9.9) from it on each iteration before adding (1/C). The resulting parent fractal is little more than a mostly open ellipse with its longer axis in the vertical direction and eight patches of debris arranged in a ring just inside the perimeter of this ellipse. Today's scene is located in the debris along the negative X-axis at the western edge of the open ellipse. The name "Julia Intrusion" refers to the 'almost' Julia set at the center. Such miniature Julia sets in Mandelbrot images indicate that an unseen Mandelbrot set or minibrot lies hidden beneath the surface detail of the image. The shape of the Julia set corresponds to the part of the M-set over which it lies. A bit of the underlying Mandelbrot set shows through the surface Julia set as the bright bluish debris filling the left half of the J-set. The rating of a 7 is based mostly on the coloring, which in turn was created by the outside=tdis option. The calculation time of one minute has been rounded for convenience, but the parameter file will run in about this time on most SOTA (State of the Art) computers.
