as I received no reply here is my question again as I am certain that some one of those DOS scientists knows the answer: Under WIN98 in the DOS/shell what can I do to keep image and text window from interfering ?
Have you gone through the recommedations here:

Are you running Fractint full screen? Fractint doesn't play nice when it is windowed. Try putting Fractint into a text mode before you change windows using alt-tab.
Did you try textsafe=bios?
Try setting virtual=no in your sstools.ini file.

I use DOS Fractint under Win98. I put Fractint into text mode by hitting <tab> during the generation of an image if I want to window the Fractint session. (Yes, that does stop generation of the image.) I almost always use a 'Disk Video Mode' to calculate larger images because the "Disk Video In Progress" screen is a Text Mode screen which I can window by typing <alt><enter>. I do not type characters into the windowed DOS Fractint session. I make it full screen with <alt><enter> before typing characters into the program. I use textsafe=save in sstools.ini, but not virtual=n . I believe the effectiveness of these settings is more a function of your particular graphic card and driver than the operating system. I also turn off automatic monitor dimming while watching a fractal being calculated. Not doing this loses pixels on my vanilla Gateway system when the monitor dims. If you still have problems after using Jonathan's and my recommendations please drop me an email. I enjoyed your multi215a fractal. I note that most of its pixel's iterations fall approximately between 70 and 85 so it takes a color map that uses this fact to do justice to your image. - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # ######################### ################################################################# -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
