Fractal folks, Would anyone be able to recommend something in the way of a book on bitmap graphics for a guy who is a professional commercial artist making a very late transition to computer? Mike

There are probably several that would be quite handy to have, either as a reference or as instructional. The one that I use more than any is published by O'Reilly: "Encyclopedia of Graphics File Formats, Second Edition", by James D. Murray and William vanRyper The question is, what is this "guy" wishing to do?? Program, understand more, interface with, or what?? Does he want to know more about 2-D graphics, 3-D graphics, or both?? And if he is going to be programming, what language and OS is he aiming for?? Sincerely, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/
Paul He'll want to have a working understanding of bitmap graphics as a creator images and use that in producing commercial artwork, not programming. Mike

Try using Bitmap Graphics books as a keyword and see what you can come up with online. As 'traditional' artist he is probably an experienced sketcher. So software like Adobe Photoshop and a sketching tablet (like those from Wacom) are suitable for a painless transition. There are many tutorials on Photoshop on the Internet - a book on Photoshop will also be helpful. And of course one of these neat digital cameras ... (for doing collages, ...) A 3d-software (like Cinema4D for example) will also be interesting. Perhaps a less expensive demo-version will do the job ... ... to frighten him ;-) AND OF COURSE A FRACTAL GENERATOR! :-) let him do some rotations through the fractalus.com 'ifl' web ring. regards from Germany... -- Michael Weitzel ... all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy ...
