FOTD 15-04-02 (Discus [6])
FOTD -- April 15, 2002 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: If all goes well, before the day is finished, I will have finished re-rendering the last of the FOTD fractal images in SF6 format. This will complete the largest single project in the preparation of the FOTD CD. Several more large tasks remain to be accomplished, but now that the major task is finished, it will be downhill the rest of the way. Today's image, which was created by the workhorse MandelbrotMix4 formula, is an exploration of the fractal that results when 0.1 part of Z^(-9) is added to 1 part of Z^(-0.9), and the sum added to (1/C). I named the image "Discus" when that word came to mind as I was studying it. I rated the image a 6 when I left the room and returned a few minutes later to find it waiting on the screen. The 6-minute render time is nominal, but even this can be bypassed by visiting one of the FOTD web sites and downloading the completed GIF image from there. The web site URL's are: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> The fractal weather Sunday was summer-like here at Fractal Central, with lots of sun and a temperature of 77F 25C. A brief light shower around sunset did nothing to spoil the cats' day. Of course, by sunset the dynamic duo had already enjoyed a full day in the yard. At one point, Tippy the tabby started feeling intrepid and ventured two doors up the hill. The sound of a can of tuna being opened brought him hurrying back where he belongs. Thomas, the oversized yellow-orange one, kept a watchful eye on Tippy as Tippy ventured away, ready to leap to the defense if Tippy had gotten into trouble. Luckily for Thomas, Tippy needed no help. And if I don't get my day's work done, some unpleasant things are sure to happen. Until next FOTD on April 18, take care, and whatever happened to catastrophe theory?
