i am working on new website. i have made folders with a collection of images and created an image gallery, what i would like to know is if the individual images load okay into fractint, if not i'm going to have to think of something else. thanks. http://www.sende.co.uk/page1/ sammi

I just tried "fract028.gif", which is a 1153x831 image, and appears to have the FractInt information at the end of the file. When the image is loaded into FractInt, I immediately get the Video Mode window asking what I want to use, with the default option being: VESA Standard Interface 1153 831 256 <-VIRTUAL! at 640 x 480 If I take that particular option, the image shows up fine, but seems to start rendering more towards the lower half of the image, as if it is "growing" downwards. Eventually it stops, with the typical "beep" from the program indicating the image has finished rendering. While in this video mode (either during rendering or afterwards) I can use the arrow keys to scroll up/down/left/right to view more of the image. But the image is now not quite the same as the original, since more was generated in the lower portion. And if I try and save the parameters, I get the message saying it "Can't create" the PAR. But it is a nice image, and I like the growing effect. ah. that might be because at one time i was experimenting and saving pictures half rendered, the rendering process is quite fascinating in some fractals, i think i was playing with the idea of making that rendering process as an animation, didn't get very far in that project though. i deally you'd want something that stopped every so often in the rendering process automatically for such. anyway so maybe that image isn't so good then.dunno.

yes. you could make a note of the parameters, hit 't' which will bring you back to the original formula, insert the values again and watch the complete render from the beginning.
And if I try and save the parameters, I get the message saying it "Can't create" the PAR.
i have no idea how to create .par files or howto get them loaded into xfractint. hence the workaround.
But it is a nice image, and I like the growing effect.
yes, thank you, i had forgotten it's history :) sammi

Interestingly I am able to save the parameters without a problem (running Fractint on an MS-DOS 6.22 partition). hi, thanks for checking, it means i can carry on using that method which was basically to chuck everything into dirs and use konquerers 'make image gallery'. sammi

i have no idea how to create .par files or howto get them loaded into xfractint. hence the workaround.
Once a FractInt produced GIF image is loaded back into FractInt using the "r" option (and the image resides in a directory path accessable to the program), then you can just use the "b" option to save all of the parameter information (including colors) as a text file with the .PAR file extension.
But it is a nice image, and I like the growing effect.
yes, thank you, i had forgotten it's history :)
Thank you for sharing these images.

Yes, it appears the .GIF image files are usuable to load into FractInt and available to be saved as PAR files. Sincerely, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/

i don't understand. the way i save is to hit 's' and it saves the .gif to my hardrive. do i then have to restore the file and hit 'b' and that would create a text file?
Thank you for sharing these images.
i have about 800, i won't do them all, just the ones i like or think are good.

After rendering an image, you can do both options without having to do anything else. One option saves just the .PAR file so that it can easily be used as a simple (and small) text file, or posted to groups as Jim Muth does regularly. But it requires others to generate the image themselves if they wish to see the graphic, as I do with the FOTD website. The other option saves the .GIF file which just happens to have the parameter information at the tail end of the .GIF image. But this is not the easist way to share parameter information, since some images could be quite large. yes, that's why i thought stating the image size is important. sammi

Love that feature. Only augmentation I hope they add is to have it provide placeholders (plain ones) or just links to multimedia image files such as MPGs. -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community

yes it's a shame it doesn't work for mpegs. i'm not sure what you mean with placeholders ? sammi

When Konqueror creates an image gallery, it normally generates a smaller version for each image it finds. Creating such an image for an MPG file isn't necessarily an easy thing to do, I'd think. So just using a generic sort of (say) "MPG" icon would be fine. A placeholder for an actual frame from the MPG. -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community

I should have mentioned that this was on one of my older Dell machines running Windows-98 using the RUN command. But I was in a hurry at the time, and forgot one crucial item when trying to save the PAR. So after trying again this morning, everything is working correctly now.
