Mike: Yes, The this part of of the MandAutoCritInZ formula automatically sets initial Z to a critical (stationary) point of the generating function, which is a point where the function has no derivative and the minibrots it produces will be intact. The (p4) part of initial Z was originally intended to reset Z to other critical points, but I almost never use this ability, since it is difficult to find other critical points by hand calculation or the graphic method. The formula does not work perfectly, sometimes only limited parts of the resulting fractals actually appear critical, but in most cases it works well enough to produce some fine fractal images. JIM
