FOTD -- July 12, 2003 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The on-again, off-again fractal telephone is still on and off. It's working when the repairman is here and out of order when he's away. Since it works 90-percent of the time, the thing to do seems to be wait until it works zero-percent of the time, whenever that may be, so that the repairman will have something to repair. While I'm waiting for the phone to break completely so that it can be repaired completely, I'll amuse myself by wandering through the world of fractals. Today's image takes us to the Julibrot of the formula (-Z^3)+C, where we enter the fourth dimension to examine one of the cubical midgets from an unimaginable angle. I named the scene that I found there "Crazy Cubical", because, though it is a perfectly normal cubical Mandeloid midget when viewed in the Mandel orientation, it is little more than a narrow slit when viewed in the direction of today's image. It's an average image with an average rating of 5. It's also a fast image with a render time of under 4 minutes. A brief heavy shower passed over in the middle of the afternoon, but the fractal cats took it in stride, retreating indoors until the sun reappeared. When the day ended, the duo was happy.
