FOTD -- December 12, 2008 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: A very busy day on Thursday means a short discussion. Today's image exists in a fractal that is starting to change from a Z^2+C Mandelbrot set to a Z^(-12)+C Mandeloid. There is quite a bit of interesting stuff that happens when a fractal with a positive exponent starts to change into one with a negative exponent, but that story will have to wait for a less busy day. The chief feature of today's image is the incredibly sandy texture of the East-Valley-type elements surrounding the central minibrot. The name "Positively Negative" refers to the change from a positive to a negative exponent of Z. The rating of a 5 is all I could give the image, which is merely a fancy-decorated scene in an East Valley elephant trunk. The calculation time of 8-1/2 minutes is somewhat slow.
