Been doing some reasearch, and asking questions to anyone who will listen, and the following is very interesting. http://www.vmware.com/products/server. I think some of this stuff might be the answer to the problems with fractint in windows. The virtual machines( I am told) fully supports DOS under windows and reacts with the hardware installed, which should solve the video resolution problems. Hope this helps<<<
I run fractint in Connectix Virtual PC under Windows XP, which is similar to VMWare. It works OK. I can get video modes up to 1280x1024 although I haven't yet been able to get 1600x1200. However, there are two big caveats: it is v-e-r-y slow, and Virtual PC is expensive. Note the following: Connectix sold Virtual PC to Microsoft in 2003. They upgraded it and the current version is called Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 (with the obligatory service packs of course). See: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx I see that they have just announced a new product called Virtual PC Express which is available in beta. I don't know how much it will cost, but other Microsoft 'Express' products are free. I'm thinking that they might include this as part of Vista, since Vista may not directly support DOS and 16 bit Windows apps. Also, they make all their money on the Virtual Server products, perhaps Virtual PC will be free. Nick
