FOTD -- October 05, 2009 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Yes, I know that today's FOTD is late, but I have an alibi. On Sunday FL was bitten by the antiquing bug, which sent us on a trip to an antique emporium in Bellefonte, which is 2 miles northeast of the geographic center of the state of Pennsylvania. Actually I'm glad we went. I found a 35-year-old 35mm SLR film camera in perfect working condition, offered for sale at $15. Film cameras are pretty much a thing of the past, but how could I resist such a bargain. The camera cost $250.00 new in 1974. Today's image lies in the fractal that results when the formula Z^1.5+C is calculated 16 levels down the logarithmic hyperladder and no function is applied. The parent fractal is shaped much like the minibrot at the center of today's image. The scene is located rather deep in a valley leading to a bud on the shore line of the main period-2 bud of the parent. Having put so little effort into the image, I was unable to give it a real rating, but considering the muddiness, a rating of a 5 would be about right. The name "The Forever Valley" is a poetic phrase. It has little connection with the actual appearance of the image. The calcula- tion time of 6-1/3 minutes is brief enough to keep doubts of the worth of the calculation at bay.
