I'd be curious to know what systems folks use to run fractint.
I use DOS Fractint 20.04.4 (Development Version) under WinXP SP3 with a graphics card that only can do VESA 640 x 480. If I recall correctly, this is also the version of Fractint that Jim Muth is using. I also run Richard's Fractint for Windows beta 5 (now renamed Iterated Dynamics) http://iteratedynamics.codeplex.com/ by using a few work-arounds. I note that Richard has said that this version of his program is not ready for public distribution. I carefully avoid doing a few things and compensate for others. If desired, I could write up how I use it... Some people may not want to put up with doing the work-arounds I'm willing to do. Richard described his approach to his version of Fractint in a blog post that I don't see at its original location, but it's available in the Internet Archive (apparently without its style sheet) here: http://web.archive.org/web/20090609215425/http://blogs.xmission.com/legalize /2007/04/13/fractint-for-windows-beta-5/ or: http://tinyurl.com/arch-FractInt-forWindows-beta5 I run DOS Fractint and Fractint for Windows beta 5 at the same time successfully. However, under WinXP SP3 neither program runs in a way where two copies of the *same* program can do productive work at the same time -- the two copies overwrite each other's images in RAM. I miss being able to run half a dozen copies of DOS Fractint under Win98... Tim, thanks for helping create a wonderful, much loved, much appreciated, much used program! - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ########################
