-------- Original Message -------- Subject: The incredible vanishing FOTD Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2011 09:42:54 -0500 From: Jim Muth <jimmuth@mindspring.com> To: skinner@thuntek.net Lee: Please forward this message to the Fractint list. The list will not accept my messages. Fractal fans: I AM, I repeat *AM* continuing to post the FOTD's to the list as I have been doing for 14 years. But instead of appearing on the list, they have been vanishing into the ether for several days. There is no problem here at Fractal Central. I joined the list from the business computer and sent a test message from the new machine. The test posting appeared back in the mail box of the original machine as expected. But the business machine is at a different location, and I cannot use it as the FOTD machine. The only hint I have is the following cryptic stuff that appeared in the header of the last FOTD that I received back from the list. If anyone can decipher it, maybe I will be able to solve the problem. (It looks like something somewhere along the line has been blacklisted for sending too much spam.) ======================================================= SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO: <fractint@mailman.xmission.com>: host mx.xmission.com [166.70.12.20]: 550-XM-RJCT22: [207.69.200.58] is prohibited from connecting to XMission mail 550-servers due to high spam volume. It does like him.. The problem is the Xmission mail servers don't like the mindspring/earthlink ones. Jim should complain to earthlink, but it could be a mistake by xmission, so someone should complain to them too (Tim Wegner I believe). I'd guess it is the latter. -----Original Message----- From: fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of alex dukay Sent: 24 February 2011 17:27 To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion Subject: Re: [Fractint] [Bulk] Fwd: The incredible vanishing FOTD It's an 'Earthlink' server in Atlanta Georgia...I wonder why it doesn't like you? Jim's subscription to the list as: jimmuth@earthlink.net looks OK. His subscription as: jimmuth@aol.com has been automatically disabled due to excessive bounces. I will try to get ahold of Jim and see what's up. Tim

The problem may be with the email address. I just sent a message to Jim using the above address and it came back with the following: A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: jimmuth@mindspring.com SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<jimmuth@mindspring.com>: host mx2.mindspring.com [207.69.189.218]: 550 jimmuth@mindspring.com...User unknown Jim had always used the following email addresses for several years: jamth@mindspring.com jimmuth@aol.com
I forwarded Jim's message to xmission support. 207.69.200.58 is an earthlink mail delivery host: Server: 198.60.22.2 Address: 198.60.22.2#53 Non-authoritative answer: 58.200.69.207.in-addr.arpa name = pop05.mail.atl.earthlink.net. Authoritative answers can be found from: 200.69.207.in-addr.arpa nameserver = scratchy.earthlink.net. 200.69.207.in-addr.arpa nameserver = itchy.earthlink.net. itchy.earthlink.net internet address = 207.69.188.196 scratchy.earthlink.net internet address = 207.69.188.197 If lots of other earthlink users send spam through this server and earthlink doesn't do anything to stem the tide, then the server will eventually make its way onto a spam filter list. This appears to be what has happened. I've asked xmission if they can adjust the filter on their end. -- "The Direct3D Graphics Pipeline" -- DirectX 9 draft available for download <http://legalizeadulthood.wordpress.com/the-direct3d-graphics-pipeline/> Legalize Adulthood! <http://legalizeadulthood.wordpress.com>
