FOTD 30-08-12 (Mandelbrot Magic [8.5])
FOTD -- August 30, 2012 (Rating 8.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is an unusually rich scene deep in the Mandelbrot set. It is located in the Seahorse Valley of the large minibrot on the west branch of the filament extending from the large period-3 north bud of the M-set. Little 'seahorse' stuff is visible in the scene however. The rating of an 8-1/2 is based on the unusual coloring, which is the main feature of the image. The name "Mandelbrot Magic" is somewhat redundant. After all, all fractals are magical. Lying at a depth of over 3*(10^25), the image requires arbitrary precision math and is therefore slow. The 11 minute wait may be avoided however by checking the web sites. The finished image is available on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> A high-definition rendering is online at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> The back images are posted at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> After the morning fog cleared off, the weather here at Fractal Central was near perfect today, with cloudless skies, light winds, and a temperature of 81F 27C. The fractal cats enjoyed the day as much as possible, totally wrecking their cat cube complex within an hour. The humans had a rather busy day, complete with a disagreement about politics. The next FOTD will be posted on schedule, but due to holiday activities, there will be no FOTD for September 1, 2, or 3. Until whenever, take care, and when you vote, vote *FOR* a candidate, not against one.
