FOTD -- August 05, 2010 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's curious scene lies near the tip of the long filament extending north from the large minibrot on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set, which explains the name "North of the Minibrot". The order-10 minibrot at the center bears a close resemblance to the exceptional minibrot that appeared in the FOTD of August 3, though the colors are not nearly as good, and the resulting rating is only an 8. Most of the textured effect in today's image is a result of rendering it with the 'inside' set to 'tdis'. A bit of the texture is also due to the slight loss of resolution at the extreme magnitude of 1.4*(10^13). This magnitude makes the mathtolerance entry necessary. The calculation time of 41 seconds is a blessed relief. The temperature of 95F 35C kept the fractal cats glued to the cool air vent and the cool tile floor. A slight thunder-sprinkle around sunset cooled things a bit but added to the humidity.
