FOTD 18-05-05 (Taken Too Far [8])
FOTD -- May 18, 2005 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In today's image we carry yesterday's line of investigation very close to the limit. We even appear to have taken it too far. We have lowered the exponent of Z to 2.0000005, causing the midget at the center to become squashed. There is a very good reason the midget looks flattened. It is not a single midget at all, but rather an overlapping series of narrow slices of midgets that fit together and overlap into a single quasi-midget shape. The location of the scene is once again very close to the negative X-axis. If I had given a bit more effort to the coloring, I might have created an image with a rating of a 9. As it is, the rating of 8 will have to do. Perhaps the most striking thing about the image is the irregu- larity of the pattern around the midget, which lies in the east valley of a larger midget but shows little signs of being in such a location. The image is downright slow. I must apologize for asking the FOTD readers to donate over one hour of precious computer time to the task of rendering a fractal. But the image is available in all its rendered glory on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The weather remained rather chilly for the season here at the Fractal Central on Tuesday, but all in all it has been pretty pleasant lately. With the temperature hovering around 68F 20C, the fractal cats enjoyed several hours in the yard, and came in- doors without complaint when the day ended. Today is starting the same, so things again look good for the duo. The next fractal will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and the natural numbers would likely work the same in all possible universes, but what about the complex numbers?
