For those of you who, like me, have been struggling trying to get DOS FractInt to work I have found what I believe is THE solution: The special make by "kolano" of DOSBOX+FRACTINT downloadable here: http://eyecandy.gnugget.net/Fractint/ I am running it on my PC on WindowsXP and it runs perfectly, full-screen, in SF10 or any of the video modes I've tried so far. DOSBOX is an "emulator"... it is a Program which will run in Windows like any other Program and it does not harm or disturb your Windows OS. Earlier, I had installed Dosbox and then installed FractintDOS into it, and Fractint ran well. But this special make by kolano of Dosbox+Fractint(included) is much better. During the past couple months I think I've tried everything else to get Fractint to run properly: I installed VirtualBox and then VMware, both with FreeDOS and Windows98 installed as their Guests, and then with Fractint installed into these Guests. In all these instances Fractint could be made to "work", at least feebly, but never properly. I've also tried to install other versions of DOS (like MS DOS 7.1 - what's in Win9x) virtually, but without success. I also got an old PC (Dell Optiplex 740) with the intention of installing Windows98 as its main OS... but learned that is impossible because the hardware in that PC is "too modern" (not IDE), and Win9x can't see SATA and can't use NTFS. I even repartitioned/reformatted half the drive in that old Optiplex to FAT32 but that didn't help, either. So you can understand why I'm enthused about this DOSBOX+FRACTINT! --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com

Now I can run hundreds of 1600/1200 images again although the Nvidia card does not support it as it is not available from my 1900/1080 flatscreen TV. Fullscreen! The speed is not so good, but maybe improved using the config file. Todays image needs almost an hour, 1280/1024, compared to 9 min with XP dos and 3 min with a bootstick, which is still the simplest and fastest solution. Albrecht
