Welcome Mark. You may also want to subscribe to the Philofractal list (Fractals and Philosophy). That list has freewheeling philosophical discussions vaguely related to fractals, and perhaps some childish back-and-forth bantering also <g>. I don't have the subscription info, but I think it is run by Jim Muth who is also on this list. Nick

No, Jim doesn't run it; he's just the most prolific and dogmatic poster and self-appointed moderator. Morgan L. Owens "Why do Americans make such a big deal about God anyway?"

"One nation under God" is how that oath goes doesn't it? Does that cover Allah or Zoroaster? Sorry if you happen to follow a polytheistic religion, whether it be variety Hindu or variety Wiccan. Requiring such a religious observance of all citizens seems little different from requiring them all to make regular prayers in the direction of Mecca. What sort of oath needs to be retaken on a regular basis? Surely once should be good enough? And if it's not, it's not worth that much in the first place, is it? Especially when people are expected to parrot it even if it goes against their own tenets. It's a funny little ritual. I wonder what other countries have similar? Morgan L. Just to pull this back into fractaland.... I don't this this thread will EVER converge...even after a billion iterations... (so let it go, eh ;^) H^) harry (resuming lurk mode) geoff stanton wrote:

Why do atheists have such a neurotic reaction to the mention of God and/or religion? Are they suppressing guilty consciences?? Jim geoff stanton <elgrande@amigos.freeserve.co.uk> wrote: Who is this god fellow anyway??
