In amusing myself with the "blivot" thread, I noticed that if you do a google search for blivot, what pops up FIRST is:

Funny that www.blivot.com doesn't show up until the 5th page.
This is what has our friend Ken upset. He wants his business to come up first when a search is done. When I received the original letter, I thought it was a joke. I was ready to reply, requesting a small payment for advertising his company on the FOTD web sites. But as Tim says, Christmas is but 3 days away, and it's time to be nice to each other. Maybe we should introduce Ken to fractals. ;-) The FOTD will appear in 2 to 3 hours. Jim M.
Whilst pondering this thread, I took a look at that original 1999 Blivot and was astounded. This must be one of the all-time uglies of the fractal world! I wonder how Jim would now rate it at, using his present, (ahem), method? :-) I really wonder why it came into being, except to annoy a future Ken. I then wondered what caused the search engine to seize upon this Blivot, and realized that I have absolutely no idea. Is it the number of hits that make the top choice in a search, or is it the number of times the word Blivot occurs? If it's the latter, then our collective response to the admonition from Ken is going to push his site further down the list, right? John W. Merry Christmas, (or politically correct equivalent), and may all your Fractals, (and Blivots), be pretty ones! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Muth" <jamth@mindspring.com> To: <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, December 22, 2003 6:19 AM Subject: Re: [Fractint] Important Message for Paul and Scott

I think google ranks by how many sites link to a site. John Wilson wrote:
