FOTD -- April 03, 2009 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: When (1/Z) is subtracted from 0.001 negative part of Z^(25) and straight C is added, the resulting fractal is a circle with a ring of 26 dots just inside its perimeter and some interesting fractal stuff near the east and west edges. Today's scene lies at the edge of a valley in the stuff near the east edge of the ring. (Rendering the formula with the function set to 'recip' creates an even more interesting parent fractal, but that's a story for another day.) I named the image "Squiggly Things" because of all the S-shaped holes surrounding the central minibrot and filling the frame. Most of the coloring effect was achieved by rendering the image with the outside set to 'fmod'. The normal 'iter' rendering is rather dull. When all was finished, I rated the fractal at a 7-1/2, which includes the usual 1/2 point reward for my coloring efforts. The calculation time of 3-1/3 minutes is not as fast as I would have preferred, but this time may be saved by viewing the image already calculated on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Spring came in like a lion here at Fractal Central on Thursday, with sunny skies and a temperature of 68F 20C.
