FOTD -- November 01, 2002 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The iterated expression that created today's fractal takes Z^(-2), subtracts Z^(-3) from it, then adds (1/C). This operation creates a fractal which is little more than a hole with scattered debris in it. But a small critical area exists at the east edge of the hole, where a tiny main stem extends east a short distance. Today's image is located on a side branch out near the tip of the stem. The name "Chromatic Jubilee" came to me when I realized that the image works best with one of the Fractint random color palettes. I also noticed that the bands are arranged so that every other iteration is displayed, rather than every consecu- tive iteration. I have no idea why this is so; it likely has something to do with the negative exponents. The rating of 6 seems fair enough. The render time of 4 minutes can be reduced to under 2 minutes by running the parameter file with the passes set to <g>.
