I do think it's different. Googling for, say, "fractals" or "fractal images" you have to have a particular interest in those subjects beforehand. But in this case *every single Google user* was confronted with these strange-looking logo adornments. I bet many people clicked on it ("Looks strange! What is this all about?") and probably many of those clicked on some of the thumbnails too, causing more traffic to the listed sites than usual. Paul N. Lee wrote:

No doubt. Have missed the change completely (that is, didn't remember it had not been "gaston julia" the first time). Speaking of memory deficits (and to add something of substance to my post), here are a few of a number of pars I've completely forgotten of (note the reset version and the inspired titles) :o) Chroma.map is nice for these, but you might try to set the background color to black (for better contrast)...
