FOTD -- September 20, 2009 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Believe it or not, we're still in the same area of the same parent fractal. I don't seem able to let go of it and move on. The most interesting thing about this particular area is the unpredictability of the shape of the many minibrots, if they actually are minibrots, that is. The minibrot at the center of today's image however is an every- day Z^2 one, though it is invisible at the magnitude of today's image. Most of the action was achieved by rendering the scene with the outside set to 'tdis' and the inside set to 'atan'. I named the finished product "A Brief Diversion" and rated it at a very ordinary 6. The calculation time of just over 3 minutes borders on slowness, especially on clunkers. For those with clunkers or with over-qualified units that panic when they see the letters D.O.S., calculation may be avoided by viewing the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> A totally cloud-free sky and temperature of 68F 20C made condi- tions nearly ideal for late summer here at Fractal Central on Saturday. The fractal cats took full advantage of the unbroken sunlight falling on their shelf in the southwest window. In my department, the re-do job has been redone and things have set- tled down to about average. The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. I give it a 75-percent chance of appearing on schedule. And a more careful calculation shows that we actually still have 1188 days before the world ends, presumably on 21 December, 2012.
