FOTD 16-04-09 (Split Fractality [8.5])
FOTD -- April 16, 2009 (Rating 8.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image came about when I added 0.5 part of Z^(-12.6) to 5 parts of Z^(-1.26) and added (1/C) to create a fractal consist- ing of a disembodied filament with a ring at its end, surrounded by a cloud of other smaller rings. Today's scene is located in an even smaller ring in one of these smaller rings. The scene is semi-evaporated, with the circumference of the evap- orated area bisecting the image from upper left to lower right and cutting exactly through the center minibrot. The extremely critical imag(p3) parameter defines the escape radius and there- fore the position of the evaporation circumference. The upper right half of the image, which is partially evapora- ted, consists of a mixture of outside and inside stuff, with the inside stuff made visible by the 'zmag' fill, while the lower left half is all outside stuff rendered in the usual 'equal-iter- ation-band' manner. The difference is quite apparent. I named the image "Split Fractality", which sounds a bit like 'split personality'. Then I rated it at an 8.5, which includes 1/4 point for the mathematical interest and 1/4 point for the coloring. The calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes is about average. The image may be seen faster by going to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and meditating on the finished product. Wednesday began with heavy rain here at Fractal Central, but by noon the rain ended and by 3pm the sun appeared, giving the fractal cats just enough time in the sun on their shelf to keep them happy. The temperature of 45F 7C did not worry them. My day was average. The taxes were out of the way weeks ago, so we had no last minute tax surprises. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and how can you be sure that no invisible fractal is lurking in that corner over there?
