FOTD 12-05-05 (Sandy Masks [6])
FOTD -- May 12, 2005 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In this ever-changing world, only a few things remain constant -- things such as the velocity of light and the mass of the electron. Or do they? I have just received the June issue of 'Scientific American' magazine, and in it I see an article that examines the possibility that these constants have changed over the life of the universe. Heavens, if the speed of light can change, what will be next -- the shape of the Mandelbrot set!? Today's formula is not new, but I have included it in my working 'allinone' formula file for the first time. It works exactly the same as yesterday's formula, except that it calculates (-Z) rather than Z. To produce today's image, I set the exponent of Z to 1.5 and examined the resulting Mandeloid for a point that might have an interesting Julia set associated with it. The result is today's image, which reminds me of discarded masks lying scattered on a sandy beach. I named it "Sandy Masks". I have no idea what kind of wild party might have been in progress on the beach the night before, but it must have been interesting. The image itself is . . . not bad. It rates a 6. The render time of (virtually) exactly 4 minutes is not bad also. The ease with which the completed GIF image may be downloaded from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> is once again not bad. Another near perfect day, with lots of sun and a temperature of 81F 27C, pleased the dynamic duo here at Fractal Central on Wednesday. Today is starting cloudy and cooler. It is not too bad a day, but still not up to yesterday. The cats will have to make a judgement. For me it's a matter of doing the things that need to be done, and then pondering the mysteries of the uni- verse. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and if life serves you a peach, ignore the pit.
