FOTD -- September 10, 2010 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the East Valley of a near-Mandelbrot set that takes on quintic characteristics in its depths. I named the image "Flowers in the Field" because of the colorful flowers scattered about the scene. Actually, the flowers are a mixture of minibrot basins and anti- minibrot hills, and it's hard to tell from the colors alone which is which. There is no doubt however about the large blossom near the center, which is a minibrot without doubt. A little quintic minibrot is clearly visible at its center. After not too much consideration, I rated the image at a 7. It has some mathematical interest and also some artistic value. Puting these assets together results in the total rating of 7. The calculation time of just over 3 minutes will pass in a flash once the colors at the top of the frame appear. Those with dial- up may wait an extra minute or two. Lots of clouds and a temperature of 70F 21C made Thursday a routine day that will soon be forgotten here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats forgot the day before the sun went down. They were more interested in food. For me the day was equally forgettable. It came and went with not a single memorable thing taking place.
