FOTD 11-07-06 (Hidden Zebras [6])
FOTD -- July 11, 2006 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image consists of a lot of black and white stripes. Zebras have black and white stripes, therefore zebras must be in the image. But a careful search reveals no zebras, leading to the conclusion that the zebras are hidden. This is why I named today's image "Hidden Zebras". Actually, the image is a scene in the (-Z)^(1.5)+C Mandeloid, which not by coincidence is the same figure as the Z^(1.5)+C Mandeloid as it appears minus-PI levels down the log ladder. These Z^(1.5) fractals are frustrating. The midgets in them have a 'they-all-look-the-same-to-me' quality that is hard to escape. Discontinuities converge on the midgets in a boringly similar manner. But hope springs eternal, and I never give up hope that one day I will find a midget in the range around Z^1.5 that is a true prize winner. I added a bit of action to today's image by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. The 'tdis' was worth the effort because when I used it, the rating of the image jumped from a 5 to a 6. The render time of 6-1/2 minutes is not so easily improved. A S.O.T.A. fireball computer is needed to speed up things, and many such new-fangled machines have a nasty habit of being un- able to run Fractint, the best fractal generating program of all time. (IMO of course) Another way to view the hidden zebra is to download the completed GIF image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The weather was a bit too warm and muggy for absolute comfort here at New Fractal Central on Monday. But the fractal cats seemed not to mind. They were more interested in lying on their scratching posts by the front windows, watching the birds scrounge for food. My day was somewhat busy. Unless something unexpected happens, which is always possinle, the next FOTD will appear right here in 24 hours. Until next time, take care, and see you then. Greetings, For those that wish to acquire all of the various PARs and FRMs from Jim Muth's postings over the years, Les StClair's website already has the majority available in collections: http://www.les-stclair.co.uk/fractals/pars.htm The collections are based upon a full years worth of postings, starting from the first posting on April 12, 1997 (similar to a fiscal year). But, since the actual links on the above listed URL have not been updated since the Domain Name was changed, one will get the usual message stating "404 Not Found error". You will need to modify the link from: http://www.les.stclair.btinternet.co.uk/fractals/fotdv8.zip to: http://www.les-stclair.co.uk/fractals/fotdv8.zip This will only get everything up to, and including, April 11, 2005. Since 2001, I have been keeping them in collections by a calendar year, and have them available at the following location: http://www.nahee.com/Software/+Formulas+Parameters/ And they are current as of this mornings posting. Hi gang...(he says, suddenly waking up after being gently nudged back to life)... I've uploaded a revised pars page which fixes the broken links that Paul mentioned. As an added bonus I've patched in volume 9 of the collection (2005-6) Thanks to Hal and Roger for doing the editing (and the nudging ;-) cheers, Les http://www.les-stclair.co.uk/fractals/pars.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul N. Hey there, sorry to have disturbed your hibernation. ;-}

But now am glad that I posted the message, and that it got the changes made for everyone to access. You are more than welcome for the nudge!! Sincerely, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/
