FOTD -- June 18, 2012 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The parent fractal of today's image is a Mandelbrot set rather heavily infested with Z^(1.5) energies. The infestation has caused the main spike to be largely swallowed up into a higher dimension and the large minibrot to squeeze down into a kind of 'pac-man' shape. Today's image is a Julia set of the blunt valley that serves as pac-man's throat. I named the image "Shield of the Woods" because of the forest of trees that appears to surround the central shield. The rating of an 8 includes a half point coloring bonus, which might or might not have been earned. The tree-like features in today's image are quite common in the Julia sets of certain types of valleys in Mandeloids of fractional values. For a brief time I considered subtracting a point from the rating because of the familiarity of these fractal trees, but then I decided the image was attractive enough to honestly rate the 8. There is no debate however about the calculation time. At a brief 40 seconds, the time will pass before impatience can even be thought about. The clouds held the temperature to a chilly 70F 21C and depressed the fractal cats, who slept through a good part of the day, taking a break only to explore the latest arrangement of their cubes.
