Alternate color map for Jim Muth's Aug 22, 04 FOTD, "High Tension"
########################################################### An alternate color map for Jim Muth's Aug 22, 04 FOTD. Jim says the image, which he named High Tension, "...has a kind of electrical feeling about it..." To enhance that effect I rotated the surprisingly adaptable color map -- taken from the 'Leather Gem' image entered in the 1998 http://www.fractalus.com/ contest -- to provide a range of blues for the electric arcing. The original image is by Damascena Korwen: http://www.fractalus.com/contest98/entries/01-013.htm and is a *very* nice fractal. The .gif image on that page was apparently saved without the Fractint extra info describing how to make the image (assuming that the image was created in Fractint.) I failed to get a useful .par file when I tried to write one out after loading her original .gif image into Fractint. I load her color map into many of Jim Muth's images and then rotate it to see if any of its color ranges is compatible with features in the image. Often wonderful additional structures can be brought out of Jim's images with this color map. If Jim's image contains a miniature Mandelbrot set I set the interior color to black in the color map for that image -- just my personal taste. To set the Mandelbrot set interior color to black, invoke Fractint's Palette Editor with the sequence: 'e', <Enter> while viewing the image. To set this color map location to zero move the cursor so it is resting inside the miniature Mandelbrot set and then type: r, 0, b, 0, g, 0 (no need to type the commas) to set the red, green and blue components of the color to zero in this location in the color map. Make sure that you *** DON'T INADVERTENTY MOVE THE CURSOR *** while you are typing. If the cursor moves while you are typing you may zero out the red component of one color map location and the blue and green components of a different color map location! I have to warn you that it is very easy to inadvertently do this... Dismiss the Palette Editor with <esc> and save the newly colored image in the usual way. Below is the Leather Gem color map -- simply copy and paste into your favorite text editor and save as a text file with the file extension .map in your Fractint directory. It will then appear in the list of color maps available to be loaded into images. After loading her color map into an image make sure you *** ROTATE IT *** to try its various color ranges out in different areas of your image. I have often been pleasantly rewarded. Use the < and > (or , and .) keys to rotate the color map while you are in the Palette Editor. I have noticed that on my machine the Palette Editor rotates colors much more smoothly than the color rotation performed by those keys while you are in the Color-cycling mode invoked by typing the letter 'c'. Please let me know the favorable results of any of your uses of her color map. - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # ######################### START FRACTINT COLOR MAP FILE======================= 136 52 0 132 48 0 128 44 0 124 40 0 120 40 0 116 36 0 112 32 0 108 32 0 104 28 0 100 24 0 96 20 0 92 20 0 88 16 0 84 12 0 80 12 0 76 8 0 72 4 0 72 4 0 72 4 0 76 8 0 80 8 0 80 12 0 84 12 0 88 16 0 92 20 0 92 20 4 96 24 4 100 24 4 100 28 4 104 32 4 108 32 4 112 36 4 112 36 8 116 40 8 120 44 8 120 44 8 124 48 8 128 48 8 132 52 8 132 56 12 136 56 12 128 52 12 120 44 12 112 36 8 104 32 8 96 24 4 88 16 4 92 16 4 96 20 4 100 24 4 104 28 4 108 32 4 112 36 4 172 88 20 176 92 20 180 92 20 180 96 20 184 96 20 188 100 20 192 104 24 188 100 24 180 92 24 172 88 20 164 80 20 156 76 20 148 68 16 140 64 16 132 56 12 128 48 12 120 44 12 112 36 8 104 32 8 96 24 8 88 20 4 80 12 4 72 4 0 36 12 4 40 0 0 60 20 0 84 40 0 104 60 0 124 80 0 144 100 0 164 120 0 188 140 0 208 160 0 232 180 0 252 200 0 252 188 0 252 180 0 252 168 0 252 156 0 252 144 0 252 132 0 252 120 0 228 104 0 200 92 0 176 76 0 148 60 0 120 48 0 96 32 0 68 16 0 60 16 8 48 16 20 40 16 28 28 12 40 28 12 48 28 16 56 24 20 64 24 20 72 20 24 80 16 28 88 16 32 96 12 36 104 8 40 112 12 48 116 16 56 120 16 60 124 20 68 128 24 76 132 28 84 136 28 88 144 32 96 148 36 104 152 40 112 156 40 116 160 44 124 164 48 132 168 52 140 172 56 148 180 60 156 184 64 164 184 64 168 188 68 176 188 72 184 192 76 192 196 80 200 200 76 192 188 72 184 180 68 172 168 64 164 160 64 156 148 60 148 136 56 140 128 52 128 116 48 120 108 44 112 96 40 104 88 36 92 76 32 84 64 28 76 56 24 64 44 20 56 32 24 64 36 28 68 40 28 76 40 32 84 44 36 88 48 40 96 52 44 100 56 48 108 60 48 116 60 52 120 64 56 128 68 60 136 72 64 140 76 68 148 80 72 156 84 76 164 88 80 172 92 84 180 88 96 184 80 108 188 76 120 192 68 132 192 64 144 196 56 156 200 52 168 204 44 180 208 40 192 212 32 204 216 24 216 220 20 228 224 12 240 228 4 224 220 8 212 212 12 196 204 16 184 196 20 168 188 24 156 180 28 140 172 32 124 164 36 112 156 40 96 148 44 84 140 52 68 132 56 52 124 60 52 120 56 52 116 56 48 108 52 48 104 52 48 100 48 48 92 44 48 88 40 48 84 40 44 76 36 44 72 36 44 68 32 44 68 32 44 64 32 44 64 32 40 60 28 40 56 28 36 52 24 52 56 24 68 60 28 88 64 32 104 68 32 120 72 36 136 76 40 152 84 44 168 88 48 176 96 52 188 104 60 192 112 60 196 120 60 200 124 60 204 132 60 208 140 64 212 148 64 216 156 64 220 160 64 224 168 64 228 176 64 232 184 64 236 188 64 240 196 64 244 204 64 248 212 64 252 220 60 252 220 80 252 224 104 252 228 128 248 228 148 248 232 172 244 232 192 244 236 216 240 240 240 236 224 224 232 212 212 224 196 196 220 180 180 148 60 0 148 60 0 144 56 0 140 52 0 END FRACTINT COLOR MAP FILE======================= ########################################################### --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
