FOTD -- September 08, 2010 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in the Seahorse Valley area of the HyperMandelbrot set. The Hypermandelbrot set consists of two overlapping classic M-sets, which coincide perfectly as long as all parameters are set to zero. When the parameters are changed however, the sets become offset and begin covering each other. When different parts of the two sets occupy the same coordi- nates, the part with the lesser iteration count always prevails. This gives some interesting effects, as today's image shows. With the imag(p4) parameter in the formula set to 0.00000001, the two sets are offset to only a slight degree, but the image magnitude of over 10,000,000 is so great that the slight offset has a large effect. The two overlapping minibrots, which are actually the same minibrot appearing twice, have obscured large parts of themselves. The surrounding patterns also suffer with this identity mix-up, but everywhere, the parts with the least iteration count always prevail. I named the image "No Warpage Here". When I first saw the image, it appeared skewed, but when I checked, I found it to be perfectly straight. The name reflects the discovery. The rating of an 8 is well above the average 5 or 6. The calculation time of 6-1/2 minutes is a bit on the dragging side.
