Bill, Albrecht is talking about DOSBox SVN-Daum. Are you running DOSBox SVN-Daum or the original DOSBox, Bill? I think I remember reading on the internet that their configuration files are different in places and potentially incompatible. Tim Wegner is running DOSBox SVN-Daum under Windows 10. See below. Albrecht, Please see Tim's [Fractint] 1/25/2018 [Fractint] post about the configuration file for DOSBox Daum. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just found a voluminous DOSBox SVN-Daum .conf file! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bottom of the last post on this page by "waltc": https://www.gog.com/forum/stonekeep/full_screen_mode includes a link to a DOSBox SVN-Daum .conf file that has a .jpg extension with the instructions "Here's my conf file...(just remove the .jpg to view)" -- which did not work for me. I discovered that some browsers (e.g.: Firefox) refuse to display this text file, so once I successfully viewed it with MS IE, I put it on my server with a .txt extension if you want to look at it. It appears to contain a tremendous number of options to get many specific DOS games (and the hardware they require) running. Fractint's needs are comparatively simple -- hi res graphics -- and possibly a sound card, so we won't need *everything* that "waltc" has in their .conf file. Here's that DOSBox SVN-Daum .conf file: http://tinyurl.com/DOSBox-SVN-Daum-conf-file or: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/DOSBox_SVN-Daum/_List_of_commands_in_a_DOSBo... "waltc" further says: ---------------------------- I'd strongly advise you to use this version of Dosbox: http://ykhwong.xo.st/ It is Dosbox-svn-daum and it is much better than the anemic version of dosbox Gog [Great Old Games -Hal] ships, imo. This version of Dosbox svn-daum (published Jan 27 2014) includes a 64-bit version of dosbox & allows you to use any of a wide variety of pixel shaders...Highly recommended... I run the game [StoneKeep, I think] @ 1920x1200 with a D3d pixel shader that cleans up the graphics significantly...but there's only so much that's possible with this old game, as you note...;)...I found that the 64-bit version of dosbox pretty much doubles the animation and game frame rates and of course allows the game to use more ram and resources than the 32-bit version of dosbox.exe. ---------------------------- I'm guessing that Fractint doesn't use pixel shaders, so this particular concern may not apply to Fractint -- just to live action games. Another user, "iancurtis", on that page listed their graphics settings. Here they are: ------------------------------ My graphic settings: (dont know which shader to use there for best quality) fullscreen=false fulldouble=false fullresolution=desktop windowresolution=1920x1200 output=direct3d autolock=true sensitivity=100 waitonerror=true priority=higher, normal mapperfile=mapper-SVN-Daum.map pixelshader= usescancodes=false overscan=0 ------------------------------ I believe that some of these commands are likely to be the same as in "vanilla" (non-SVN-Daum) DOSBox, so the DOSBox Wiki may will give useful info about these commands for use in DOSBox SVN-Daum: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/ Their discussion of the vanilla DOSBox .conf file is here: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf I also found a page that discusses: "Is there a way to make a Windows shortcut that will run a dos program through DosBox automatically, without the need to open DosBox mount a drive etc. manually?" http://tinyurl.com/Windows-shortcut-2run-Fractint or: https://superuser.com/questions/195755/windows-shortcut-that-runs-through-do... Doing this allows just a double click on the shortcut icon to set up and run Fractint in DOSBox SVN-Daum. Tim Wegner posted: -------------------------------------------------- I have SVN Daum working fine under Windows 10. Thanks, Hal. The config file is NOT the problem, Bill has the correct one. As I see it it´s the fact that DosBox has been refused access so on ALL queries you get the "nofiles" error. It is the same on my second Win10 system used as backup. See my previous message. Albrecht On 28.01.2018 11:35, Harold Lane wrote:

I’m using Dosbox SVN-Daum and the config I sent him is the one I use. On Sun, Jan 28, 2018 at 3:35 AM Harold Lane <hallane@earthlink.net> wrote:
