Interesting to see this discussion here. In fact, very much in the news in the San Francisco Bay Area is the Millennium tower that was completed in 2009. It does not have a foundation that goes to bedrock. It has 58 stories and a foundation that goes ~80 feet into
bay-fill that can liquefy in an earthquake. It has been sinking at
a much faster rate than predicted and is now tilting. They are claiming that it is still safe in an earthquake. My medium-sized wood frame house near the Hayward fault has concrete piers that go 14-24' into the ground, into bedrock.

Since no one really understands the quantum, both sides can spin the quantum discoveries and results of experiments to make it appear as their own theory of reality is true, but to me at least, it appears that the materialist side is doing the greater amount of spinning. I also notice that materialists are quicker to slip into anger and launch ad hominem attacks when they have no real rebuttal of idealist claims. To me this is how people react when they begin to doubt their own beliefs. Then again, maybe it's all a tempest in a teapot . . . Hi, Thanks for your concern. Yes I do live in New Zealand . I live in the North Island some considerable distance from the epicenter of these recurring geological disturbances. The 2011 earthquake that devastated Christchurch was magnitude 5.8 , this recent one was 7.8 ; however this was some distance from Christchurch and other major cities. The capital , in Wellington , was shaken up a fair bit , this seems like a first time as far as I know. For some reason people were making a fuss about lights on the horizon, this might of been anything from a fire to a transformer going . I did notice the quake and awoke to find my bed , which is upon small wheels, rolling with the quake. For some reason people were making a fuss about lights on the horizon, If you ever learn what those lights associated with the quake actually were determined to be, I'd be interested to know.
I've read about light associated with earthquakes -- but I was amazed to see that there was an apparently comprehensive overview of the phenomenon in Wikipedia -- with 20 references: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_light "During the 2007 Peru earthquake lights were seen in the skies above the sea and filmed by many people. Okay another quake , this time in Japan 6.x near where the last one was. Thankfully there are no nuclear power stations in New Zealand. Most of our power comes from renew-ables , like hydroelectric and geothermal . Some major hydroelectric dams are to be found in the South Island whilst the geothermal stations are in the north island. There was a study done by a New Zealand University into the feasibility of our going all electric for transport ; their conclusion 12% less carbon being pumped into the atmosphere. If our homes also went off the grid this is going to be a significant improvement in the countries carbon footprint too. You mentioned the scotch tape . If this is trimmed to a point then peeled rapidly peeled off a surface x-rays can be generated at the tip, no one quite knows how this happens. I live in the North Island some considerable distance from the epicenter of these recurring geological disturbances.
The 2011 earthquake that devastated Christchurch was magnitude 5.8 , this recent one was 7.8 ; however this was some distance from Christchurch and other major cities.
The capital , in Wellington , was shaken up a fair bit , this seems like a first time as far as I know.
For some reason people were making a fuss about lights on the horizon, this might of been anything from a fire to a transformer going .
I did notice the quake and awoke to find my bed , which is upon small wheels, rolling with the quake.
What surprised me was that the internet survived and I was able to contact a relative who lives closer to the capital he was okay too.
