Thanx all 4 replies, the pics here: http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/~pbourke/raytracing/povfrac/final/ are awesome! I will checkout POV-ray then, hopefully I can make sense out of the code so I can write animation scripts like with fractint. Time will tell. JoTz

I don't know about "like fractint", but POVray makes it easy to animate images in own it's native way right in the POV-ray script. I used that to make the Mandelbrot lake fly-by animations in Image Lab 2nd Edition, though that was with a MUCH older POV-Ray program. Tim
PovRay uses a Scene Description Language that allows for the inclusion of Fractals. You can either include a pre-rendered fractal image built with Fractint and then render the image in a 3-D format with PovRay or use the already available fractal/Julia functions intrinsic to PovRay to create your own rendering. There are a few PovRay macros out there that can help with taking your Fractint image and rendering it the way you wish, but off-hand I can't think of any. Unfortunately, PovRay's SDL has a steep learning curve and unless you are willing to learn a "new" language quickly, PovRay may not be the best product out there.
