FOTD -- November 12, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-5.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image takes us back to the East Valley of the parent Mandelbrot fractal that results when Z^(2.01) is calculated 1.5 levels up the hyperladder with no function applied. (We very recently checked this same valley.) Since the parent is rotated about 90 degrees, its East Valley, which is shaped like a wedge, is on the west side. Today's image lies at the inner extremity of the chaos shooting inward from this wedge. The name "Cusps of Wonder" refers to the eight cusps surrounding the central minibrot. The artistic rating of an 8 indicates that I am rather satisfied with the gloomy atmosphere of the image. The math rating of 5.5 shows that there is little new stuff in the math. The calculation time of 2 minutes seems appropriate for the scene. faster satisfaction may be enjoyed by checking the web sites however. For complete satisfaction check the finished image at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> and the variations at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> <http://user.xmission.com/~legalize/fractals/fotd/about.html> The day began with a temperature of 31F -0.5C and light snow, which piled up to an inch (2.5cm) by the time it ended at 7am. But by late morning the sky had cleared and by noon the sun had cleared away the snow. The fractal cats, who are showing signs of becoming the best of friends, watched the snowflakes in the early morning, then took it easy in the afternoon. One fractal human was glad the snow went away by itself; the other shrugged it off. The next FOTD will be posted who knows when. The best bet is 24 hours from now, so until whenever, take care, and the globe is growing warmer, there is no doubt of that. The question is how much warming is due to man's activities. My guess is about 5-percent, but some zealous environmental activists claim that we are responsible for 99-percent of the warming. (If this is true, then I'm a sasquatch.) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image takes us back to the East Valley of the parent Mandelbrot fractal that results when Z^(2.01) is calculated 1.5 levels up the hyperladder with no function applied.
